How COVID-19 Has Shaped Home Cooking

Populations worldwide have begun to resort to eating locally sourced fruits & vegetables as restaurants and fast-food chains have limited in-person dining leading to an influx of good old home cooking.

If there is one positive that has come out of the years 2020/2021, it has been the increase in home cooking worldwide. Gone are the days (at least for the foreseeable future) where the restaurant and fast food industry have dominated the way we eat as a culture, which is beneficial for our wallets and our day-to-day health.

If you’re anything like we were during the lockdowns, we often found ourselves feeling restless and hungry for no good reason. This is one reason people from all over the world took it upon themselves to buy locally sourced fruits & vegetables from their local greengrocers and begin learning how to cook different meals to kill time and satisfy their cravings throughout the day.

Goodbye to Processed Foods, Hello to Fruit & Veg

There is no denying that home-cooked meals have become part of the norm nowadays, but it has also led people to shift the way they think about the foods they eat. Before, it was easy to get lost in the shuffle of going out and eating with friends a couple of times a week instead of staying in and eating healthy. Now people are becoming excited to buy locally sourced fruits & vegetables and improve their mindset when it comes to eating less processed foods.

Interestingly enough, a survey conducted by Bloomberg News and Morning Consult in the United States indicated that people planned on continuing to eat at home even once the pandemic is over and the economy is fully functioning again. Now, while the results may be different for the UK, the trend of staying home and eating in is likely to be just as possible here as well.

Are You Hesitant to Cook?

We get it. We all can’t be as good as Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen, and that’s okay. Part of the fun of cooking at home is experimenting with different fruits and & veg and creating something that could either go well or horribly! We suggest going to your local greengrocer and picking up some locally sourced fruit & vegetables and then heading to your kitchen like you own that place. It’s time to put on your apron and sharpen those knives –it’s cooking time.
